The Man Behind
the Darkness

Clayton W. Snyder writes military horror and grimdark fantasy — fiction where the monsters aren't metaphors, the wars don't ennoble, and the cost of survival is tallied in the people you used to be.

His debut novel Norylska Groans, co-authored with Michael R. Fletcher, is a bleak industrial fantasy steeped in guilt, sacrifice, and the machinery of empire. It was a finalist in the prestigious Self-Published Fantasy Blog Off (SPFBO).

His solo debut, Cold West, brought the same unflinching lens to a genre-defying frontier horror — another SPFBO finalist. His short fiction appears regularly in Grimdark Magazine.

He is currently seeking representation for Red Sands, a military horror novel set in Afghanistan — a story about what happens when a squad's sins come back wearing an ancient face.
